Mohawk is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plumas County, California, United States. It is located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, near the western edge of the county. The population of Mohawk was 86 as of the 2020 census.
The community of Mohawk was originally founded as a logging and milling camp in the late 1800s. Today, its economy is based largely on tourism, with many visitors coming to the area to enjoy the natural beauty of the mountains, as well as recreational opportunities like hiking, fishing, and skiing at nearby resorts.
The town is located near the Mohawk Valley, which is known for its stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests. Mohawk is also close to the Pacific Crest Trail, a popular long-distance hiking route that stretches from the Mexico-United States border to the Canada-United States border.
Mohawk has a general store, gas station, post office, and a few small businesses. The closest major town is Quincy, located about 18 miles southeast of Mohawk.
